As with most motivational Christian books, the author challenges us to live for God, and remove self from the equation, because frankly, this is what we do in America. We get sucked into the culture, and live like the culture, and pretty soon, we can't be picked out of a crowd in the culture, because we're acting and doing just like everyone else.
The challenge that I glean from this book is how to separate myself from the culture and glorify God in my life. Is it too easy to just work a job, go through the motions, and make no difference in the world? Do I make too many excuses for why I'm not living for God?
Ultimately, you will feel compelled to read this book to find out what all the fuss was about. Because you've probably heard other Christians talk about it. Francis Chan assumes you are a believer, so this definitely isn't a book for anyone that doesn't have a born again relationship with Christ. Granted, a non-believer could pick this up, read the first chapter or two, and maybe, just maybe be convicted by the Holy Spirit. God uses all methods and reasons to call people to Him.
Will this book push me enough to change my life, and the lives of those around me? Hard to say, considering it's basically along the same lines as David Platt's book "Radical". Same theory, same message, and same guidelines. Live for God like no other. Get out there and (as Nike says) "Just Do It".
